About Dr. Sumit Basu

Dr. Sumit is the Chief of Radiation Oncology (department of Radiation Oncology) at the Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune, with a rich experience of over 20 years in the field of Oncology and Radiotherapy). He is actively associated with setting up of state-of-the-art Radiation Therapy facilities at Ruby Hall Clinic as In-charge of the New Cancer Care Project, which include Oncor Linear Accelerator with Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Radiotherapy (SRS/SRT), 3-dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy (3DCRT), Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). He has undergone extensive training in IMRT/IGRT techniques and Stereotactic Methods at Christiana Care Hospitals and Henri Ford Hospital (USA), respectively.

Dr. Sumit’s major areas of interest include Head & Neck Malignancies, one of the most prevalent cancers in India, Stereotactic Radiation Techniques in the management of Intra & Extra Cranial Tumours, Central Nervous System tumors, Gynecological malignancies and Prostate cancer. He has been an attendee at numerous conferences, seminars and workshops, as a delegate and faculty) such as Annual Meeting of ESTRO, Barcelona, Spain (2010), Asian Society of Neuro-Oncology (ASNO), Biennial Meeting, Istanbul, Turkey (2014), Philips Pinnacle Asia Pacific Users Meeting, Brisbane, Australia (2014), and many more. He has several publications and presentations to his credit - The Use of Xylitol for the Prevention of Xerostomia in Patients Receiving Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy for Head and Neck cancers in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics, Evaluation of Low Dose Volumes in Pelvic IMRT in the AMPICON 2014, Radiation Dose to Brachial Plexus in Treatment of Head and Neck Malignancies Using 3D conformal Radiation Therapy in RSNA 2013 (Chicago) – to name a few.

Dr. Sumit has been a Post Graduate Teacher and appraiser for DNB (Diplomate in National Board) program in Radiotherapy since 2010 and has gained vast experience of successfully using Precision techniques such as IMRT, IGRT, SRS, SRT, SBRT for the treatment of variety of tumors. He is a life member of a number of prestigious bodies and societies like Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI), Indian Society of Neuro-Oncology (ISNO), Maharashtra Chapter of Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (presently holding the post of Joint Secretary), and more.
